Bosnia and Herzegovina has a national, more restrictive BHDCA system for drones. Formally, operations are divided into OPEN, SPECIFIC and CERTIFIED, but even the basic OPEN category has a lower altitude limit than in many European countries and requires the drone to be entered in the BHDCA register.

Camera / registration noteThe BHDCA requires drones covered by the rulebook - essentially from 249 g to 25 kg - to be entered in the register. After the application is submitted, the BHDCA issues a Potvrda o evidenciji, and the operator must keep the data up to date and renew the entry in line with the authority's procedure.

Local points to double-check

In the OPEN category a drone may be flown only in daytime, within the operator's line of sight and up to a maximum of 30 m AGL.
In OPEN you must keep at least 30 m from people, animals, objects, vehicles, roads, railways, waterways and overhead installations. This is significantly more restrictive than many EASA entries in the app.
You may not fly over people, and you must keep at least 50 m from public gatherings. Do not come closer than 500 m to industrial zones, embassies, government facilities and other public buildings either.
A protection zone of 300 m from the border line into the territory of B&H applies - flying within this strip requires prior consent of the B&H Border Police.
Any drone with a mass over 1 kg requires a valid insurance policy covering third-party damage in the territory of B&H.
Flights closer than 1.5 km from airport boundaries, approaches and departures, and flights in a CTR or ATZ, require prior coordination with the relevant ATS or the airport operator in accordance with BHDCA rules.
Drones over 25 kg require special BHDCA approval, and commercial operations and aerial work move to SPECIFIC or CERTIFIED.
The BHDCA also indicates a requirement to pass an exam on knowledge of aviation regulations for drone operators, but the organisation of exams is published separately by the authority; this follows from the current BHDCA page on entering a drone in the register.
