Liechtenstein applies Swiss law in civil aviation, so the drone rules are effectively linked to the FOCA/BAZL system and the Swiss dLIS, but local flight bans and data protection rules also apply. In practice, before each flight you must check not only the open category conditions but also the FOCA map and the current restrictions published for the airspace.

Camera / registration noteLiechtenstein uses the Swiss operator and remote pilot system. Operator registration takes place in dLIS and is required for drones of 250 g or more and for lighter drones with a camera or another personal-data sensor. The operator registers in the EASA state of their residence or registered office; Switzerland and Liechtenstein are one of the EASA-system states here, and the FOCA registration fee is CHF 10.

Local points to double-check

Do not fly higher than 120 m above the nearest point of the surface, keep VLOS and do not fly over gatherings of people.
Many operations in the open category require an A1/A3 certificate; subcategory A2 requires additional A2 competency in accordance with the rules applied by FOCA/BAZL. The minimum pilot age in the open category is 12, and younger pilots may fly only under the supervision of a person aged 16+ with the required certificates.
In Liechtenstein there is a local permanent drone no-fly zone in the area of the Government building – Parliament – Vaduz Castle; applications for an exemption are handled by the AHR/LLV office.
Parts of the municipality of Balzers are in a no-fly zone due to the proximity of the heliport and the Bad Ragaz airfield, and the exact extent must be checked on the FOCA map.
For drones over 250 g you must have third-party liability insurance of at least CHF 1,000,000 and carry proof of insurance.
The FOCA map is also used in Liechtenstein, but before flying you must additionally check DABS, i.e. the current NOTAM publications and temporary airspace restrictions.
If a flight does not fall within the open category, the operation moves to the specific category and requires a BAZL authorisation.
