Kosovo still applies the national CAAK model, but from 2026 on the basis of the new Regulation (CAA) No. 01/2026. This is still not a simple open-category model without formalities: most drones require registration and a separate operational approval, although drones with a foreign registration do not always have to be re-entered locally.

Camera / registration noteUnder Regulation (CAA) No. 01/2026, the local regulation generally covers UAS of 250 g or more, and lighter ones are outside its scope only with a very limited flight profile: up to 19 m/s, within 15 m and up to 30 m AGL. For the rest, the CAAK maintains a UAS register, and a flight requires a separate approval.

Local points to double-check

Regulation (CAA) No. 01/2026 excludes drones under 250 g only when the flight stays within the limits of 19 m/s, 15 m from the operator and 30 m AGL at the same time; otherwise the CAAK regime applies.
An application for local registration must be submitted at least 5 working days before the start of the operation, and the registration itself is valid for 4 years.
The CAAK charges registration fees depending on the category: EUR 25 for A1, EUR 50 for A2, EUR 125 for A3 and EUR 250 for A4.
A drone with a foreign registration does not have to be re-registered with the CAAK, but the operator must provide the required documents, and the local operating conditions still apply.
An operational request to AIS/KANS must be submitted at least 3 working days before the flight. Without special consent you may not fly, among others, within 1 km of the border, 2 km of Pristina airport and other approved airports, or near military bases and restricted/prohibited zones.
By default, flights are allowed only in daytime and in VLOS. Night operations or those at a special event require KFOR authorisation and further consents from the relevant authorities, with the application submitted at least 30 days in advance.
For categories A2, A3 and A4, the operator or pilot must be at least 16, medically fit and pass a knowledge exam; the exam fees are EUR 25, 50 and 75 respectively.
